Making money on Hubpages is very rewarding, especially when you have the opportunity to earn some income while writing about topics that you enjoy. But what exactly are the ways you can earn money on hubpages?

There are a few options to earning money and I am going to list them. Hopefully this hub will be beneficial and provide you with basics of where to start.

What is Hubpages?

Hubpages is a website that allows you to write articles (called hubs) about any topic that you're interested in (there are some restrictions) with the potential to earn money for your work. Hubpages is designed around a revenue-sharing model which you get to share the money earned by clicks on your ads that appear on your site.

Before you can start earning money with Hubpages you first have to sign-up and become a member. It is absoutely free and easy to set up.

Once you have signed up all you need is a desire to write about topics that you enjoy and that other people will read-that is the key. If you write an article about how to watch paint dry you're probably not going to get too much interest. But if you write a meaningful hub about something that you are passionate about and about a topic you know other people are interested in, you are on your way to making some money on hubpages.

After you have signed up for hubpages the next step is very important. You will need to create an Adsense account from Google.

Create a Google Adsense Account

Google Adsense is a tool that allows Google to place ads on your website (in this case Hubpages) which usually target the topic that you are writing about. The great thing about Google Adsense is that it is free to sign-up and you can get paid almost every time someone clicks on one of the ads placed on your Hubpages hub. How cool is that? Now don't get me wrong, you're not going to be earning a ton per click (it all depends on what topic you're writing about and how much advertisers are paying for those particular ads) but if you write an unique and interesting article about a subject you know about or are very passion about, it is the best way to earn.

Since you are using Hubpages as a service, part of the agreement is that Hubpages gets 40% of your Google Adsense earnings. It is part of their revenue-sharing model with the users.  That might not sound like a great deal on your end but think of it this way: You are not paying a monthly fee to host a website and you could still earn a decent amount with some hard work and passion for your writings. It's a win-win situation.

Google Adsense is the number one way that I earn money on Hubpages. But in affiliate marketing or making money in general, it is always good to diversify. You can do that by becoming an associate (affiliate) for Amazon.

The Amazon Associate Program is designed for people to promote Amazon.com products on their website (or on their Hubs) and earn a commission for every item they sell. This comes in the form of when a user clicks on a link from your hub and is re-directed to a product page on Amazon.

The most common way to earn money through this program is to provide a great product review of any item that is sold on Amazon. If you know a lot about a certain item on Amazon.com or have read a great book that you would love to share, write a hub about it and use the Amazon capsule showing the book or item on your hub. (A capsule is just a tool provided by Hubpages that allows you to easily place widgets on your site). If the reader enjoys what you have written about the product you're promoting they will sometimes click the link that you have provided. And if they happen to purchase the product, you will receive a percentage of the sale in the form of a commission.

Some Affiliate Marketers out there do this for a living where they just write product reviews on products and earn commissions for every sale. The Amazon Associate program starts you off at a 4% commission rate but it does increase once you have sold a few items. This is just another great way that you can earn income through Hubpages.

Similar to Amazon you can sign-up and become an eBay affiliate. In the same capacity as being an Amazon Associate, you can write a product review on your hub of something you know a lot about or are willingly to research and provide links to the product that is currently being sold on eBay.

Hubpages once again provides you with eBay capsules which you can insert into your hub and provide products on your page along with their current bid price. And if a reader of your Hub clicks on the link and purchases the product you're promoting you will receive a commission on that purchase.

Kontera is a form of contextual advertising in which certain 'keywords' are underlined and when someone's mouse hovers over these keywords it creates a pop-up box with an advertisement that's supposed to be representative of the keyword.

For example if the word 'movies' is underlined it could show a pop-up box of an ad where you can purchase DVD's through an online dvd store. I personally do not use Kontera as I find it annoying when I am reading through an article. But I guess it is somewhat effective since it exists. But if you chose to use this form of advertising please be careful and try not to overload your page full of ads. This may overwhelm you're reader and they will not hesitate to go elsewhere to find their information and you will miss out any opportunity to possibly sell an item or have the user click on one of your ads.

Final Thoughts

Using Amazon and eBay are great ways to diversify your income potential on Hubpages but I think the best means of making money is through Google Adsense. It is pretty easy to set up and gives your readers the best opportunity to get encompassed in your hub and possibly click on an ad to learn more about the subject matter.

Hubpages provides a great forum to post your thoughts on almost any topic and earn money while doing it. The key once again is write unique and entertaining articles that you either are passionate about or very knowledgable on (or both) that other people will find interesting.

Almost all of the money you earn through Google Adsense will be from traffic outside of Hubpages. Hubpages is very search engine friendly so if you write a hub that is unique you could very well see your hub on the top of the search results when someone uses Google.
